This artworks are the first of Green, a new series named after the colour of life and of the heart chakra.
Inspired by a walk through the rainforest at Minyon Falls, they do not attempt to recreate the landscape, but to translate how it felt to be inside it: the density of green, the filtered light, the layering of bark, moss, water and stone.
Through an intuitive process of layering, assembling and transforming painted canvas, cardboard, kraft paper, printed photographs, fabric and thread, I let the materials take part in the work. Tears, exposed edges and loose threads remain visible as traces of making, and the support becomes part of the image rather than a background.
I think of my artworks as bodies of light: objects that act as channels, translating the sensory qualities of natural environments into visual, material and tactile experiences. Rather than representing nature, they seek to create conditions for the viewer to slow down, reconnect with the senses and find a moment of stillness.
These two works are the beginning of a series of five.
