” Color is light, and light is life “
“I am interested in art not simply as an object that communicates, but as an experience that creates space simply to be”
Artist Statement
Nature provides both a conceptual and sensory foundation for this investigation. Rather than representing natural environments directly, I am interested in how some of the qualities we experience when surrounded by nature can be translated through colour, light, materiality, texture and form.
Through these elements, I explore how an artwork might create conditions for calm attention, contemplation and a renewed awareness of our physical and perceptual state.
My practice explores the space between perception and inner experience, considering how art can create conditions for attention, contemplation and embodied awareness.
In response to the increasing speed and sensory saturation of contemporary life, I am interested in creating work that offers space rather than adding to the accumulation of visual noise. I approach art not only as an object that communicates or represents, but as an experience that can invite us to slow down, become present and turn our attention inward.

Bio
Sofía Eckholt is a Chilean visual artist and graphic designer based in Brisbane, Australia. She is currently undertaking a Master of Visual Arts at Griffith University, where she is expanding her painting practice through material, sensory and spatial experimentation.
With a background in graphic design, her approach is shaped by an understanding of colour, composition and visual perception. Originally working through abstract painting and landscape, her practice has evolved towards an exploration of the relationship between perception, nature and inner experience.
Working with colour, light, texture and materiality, Eckholt is expanding her practice beyond painting into object based and spatial forms. Her work is informed by biophilia and neuroaesthetics, as well as the sensory and perceptual qualities found in natural environments.

With a background in graphic design, Eckholt brings a strong sense of composition, color psychology and visual clarity to her painting practice. Her work is shaped by an ongoing interest in biophilia, neuroaesthetics and the restorative qualities of natural environments. Through layered textures, fluid gestures and chromatic depth, she creates immersive visual spaces that invite calm, presence and emotional balance.
Influenced by Impressionism and gestural abstraction, her practice is grounded in experimentation and intuition, allowing each work to emerge as a reflection of inner states and environmental experience. Alongside her studio practice, she works as an art instructor, engaging with community-based creative processes and wellbeing through art.
